Telangana witnesses garbage crisis amid Covid-19 pandemic
With Telangana witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases, the state's municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) department instructed all urban local bodies to sanitize public places like markets, bus stops, and affected areas. However, despite the strict instructions, the city seems to be losing its battle against the garbage crisis. Residents say that the change in strategy by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to make the city clean by removing garbage bins from street corners is not helping as the size of the roadside and street corner mounds keeps growing every day. On receiving several complaints, city Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi took stock of the situation on Sunday morning and lashed out at the GHMC workers for allowing the garbage to pile up in several areas.
