President Ram Nath Kovind presented the 'Maha Vir Chakra' to Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu (Posthumous)

“He displayed exemplary leadership and astute professionalism. He showed conspicuous bravery in the face of enemy and made supreme sacrifice for the nation,” the citation read. The martyr’s wife Santoshi and mother Manjula received the award from the President at a ceremony in Delhi. Col Santosh Babu who was the commanding officer of his unit were engaged in an unarmed combat with the intruding People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China in the Galwan Valley. As many as 20 Indian soldiers, including Col Santosh Babu laid down their lives while they put up resistance against the intrusion on June 15, 2020.
