A year has passed since the first time students started their protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. One of the biggest sites of the protests was Shaheen Bagh which began on December 14 with around 15 local women and expanded to include thousands of protestors for months afterwards. Bilkis Bano is one such woman who participated in the Shaheen Bagh protests. The 82-year-old grandmother became the face of the Shaheen Bagh protests and could be seen sitting at the dharnas from day to night. Giving strength to the protestors and giving her voice to the marginalised, she was named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2020. A year on after the protests, her fervour remains undiminished as she speaks on what the future holds for the CAA protests.
