Birth anniversary of Indian writer Amrita Pritam
Amrita Pritam is considered to be the first prominent woman writer and poet from Punjab. On her birth anniversary, let us take a look at her life and achievements. Born in Lahore, Amrita moved to New Delhi after the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. Her most famous works include “Ajj aakhaan Waris Shah nu and “Pinjar”. She produced over 100 novels and poems in her career over a period of six decades. Amrita Pritam is known to have received the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Shri award, and the Padma Vibhushan. On 31 October 2005, Amrita Pritam died in her sleep at the age of 86 in New Delhi.
