Patiala: Doctors re-implant Punjab cop's hand after 7.5 hours surgery
Doctors in PGI Chandigarh successfully reattached the hand of a 50-year-old ASI from Patiala whose left hand was chopped off by a group of assailants, while enforcing the curfew. The surgery continued for seven and half hours. The patient will be kept under observation for another 48 hours. Prof Ramesh Sharma, who led the surgery team, said that the hand was stitched anatomically. “After fixing the bones and restoring some veins and arteries for circulation, we repaired the tendons, nerves and then again the remaining corresponding arteries and veins connected. As the hand was warm, we restored circulation,” said Prof Sharma.
