The Oldest family pensioner of the Indian armed forces, Bachan Kaur, breathed her last on Friday. She was 116 years old matriarch from Mote Majra village in Punjab’s Mohali district. Her husband Gunner Jiwan Singh served in the army during British colonial rule. He had fought two World Wars and retired after around 20 years of service in the artillery regiment on December 17, 1945, and had served in what is now Balochistan province of Pakistan. He passed away in 1991 when he was 101 years old. Bachan Kaur’s family “celebrated her life” and carried out her funeral procession with a full “band and baja” at her native village on Friday.
