The Arhtiyas that is, the commission agents in Punjab have decided to shut down all grain markets in the state from Tuesday to Friday, in resentment against the raids carried out on Arhtiyas by the income tax officials across Punjab. Terming the raids as a pressure tactics of the Central government against the Arhtiyas for supporting agitating farmers, the Arhtiyas in Punjab have demanded immediate suspension of the IT raids that were carried on late Friday night and on Saturday across the state. The Arhtiya association also demanded that IT department should return the books and documents of those Arhtiyas on whom the raids were carried out in Rajpura, Samana of Patiala district and in Nawashahar district.
