First cloned calf of GIR cow breed christened 'Ganga'
The National Dairy Research Institute, based in Karnal, has produced the first-ever clone of a calf belonging to the indigenous Gir Cow breed after a two-year-long effort. A special cloning technique had to be used to achieve this breakthrough. Dairy scientists say that this breakthrough will strengthen efforts to improve the health of desi cow breeds and increase their milk yield. Apart from this a lassi prepared by using Bajra or pearl millet that's been developed by students of the Dairy Research Institute was also launched. The Bajra Lassi is made by mixing the millet's flour with milk, which is then processed and fermented with the right amount of lactic culture.
