The Opposition leaders in Chandigarh have reacted to Chandigarh Municipal Corporation charging double parking fare from vehicles coming outside of UT. Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has decided to make smart parking in 92 parking lots of the UT. This would be free for two-wheelers and electric four-wheelers. However, people coming outside of the UT would be charged double the amount.Mayor Anup Gupta informed, “Smart parking lots are introduced in 92 areas in Chandigarh. There will be boom-barriers, automated systems. Two-wheelers are totally free. The monthly pass is for Rs. 300. For vehicles having registration number outside of Chandigarh, the monthly pass is for Rs. 600.”Opposition leaders have reacted to this decision. AAP leader Damanpreet Singh said, “AAP’s stand is clear that parking must be free for everyone. This is a very bad decision of BJP to charge more from vehicles coming from outside of UT.”Congress leader HS Lucky said, “I believe that BJP’s MC has failed. The new policy is lacking on various aspects. The parking must be free for everyone. “This decision is discriminatory and illegal. People of Punjab, Haryana or those coming from any other part of the county to Chandigarh, will they be penalised?” questioned senior SAD leader Diljit Singh Cheema. “This is discrimination. Punjab’s capital is Chandigarh and they are being charged more in their own capital. This shows how BJP looks at Punjab. They hate Punjab,” said Punjab’s Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
