At the UNITED NATIONS, India’s Permanent Representative Parvathaneni Harish raised strong concerns over the increasing trend of weaponising religious identity for narrow political objectives. In a pointed remark aimed at Pakistan, he questioned narratives around Islamophobia and highlighted issues such as the treatment of Ahmadiyyas, the handling of Afghan refugees, and actions during Ramadan. India also criticised the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation for repeatedly levelling unfounded allegations. Stressing India’s pluralistic ethos, he noted that Muslim communities actively participate in democratic processes. Harish called on the UNITED NATIONS to prioritise building inclusive societies based on equality, dignity, and rule of law for people of all faiths globally.
