Sensex rises for 3rd straight day, ends 550 pts higher; Nifty tops 17,450

Speaking in Mumbai, Akhilesh Yadav raised concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission of India ahead of poll announcements in several states. Yadav said the Commission has faced multiple questions in the past, including allegations of discrimination and irregularities in by-elections. He urged the poll body to ensure that upcoming elections are conducted fairly and without discrimination. Emphasising the constitutional status of the Election Commission, the Samajwadi Party leader said it is the Commission’s responsibility to maintain transparency and credibility so that no doubts are raised about the integrity of the electoral process.
