Budget 2024 income tax expectations: In the last budget, the Finance Minister implemented various modifications to the concessional tax regime. This favoured both the middle class with lower tax rates and high-income taxpayers with a limit on the highest surcharge rate. “To encourage a wider adoption of this regime, a few changes to the CTR may be considered. And of course, the government will have to do the maths around keeping the essence of the CTR versus the more widespread adoption,” says Surabhi Marwah, Tax Partner, EY India. Budget 2024, which will be an Interim Budget, will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, 2024 as part of the Parliament’s Budget session.
