Shock, disbelief, anger at Donald Trump's victory
NEW DELHI: As America came to terms with the election verdict, reactions on the unprecedented mandate started pouring in from all corners.
Financial markets plummeted across countries. In India, it was a double-whammy which hit the stock market hard with the invested wealth taking a knock of nearly Rs 2 lakh crore on adverse global cues from Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential polls and demonetization of high-value currency notes back home.
Meanwhile, as Trump supporters rejoiced, there were millions whose moods were soured with the mandate that was stunning, to say the least.
Trump had been widely criticised by many for his views on free-trade, immigration and international engagement. He was also mired in various controversies throughout the camaigning days, which earned him many opponents.
Many media houses across the world had to pulp their front pages and cover stories.
And here is what the new front-pages and covers of these leading media organizations have to say:
Twitter went berserk with thousands dumbfounded with Trump becoming the President-elect. While some were in disbelief, there were many who drew comparison of the poll results to that of Brexit. Twitterati is drawing this analogy because there were quite a few similarities in the two polls.
Both the campaigns (Brexit and US presidential race) were nasty and confrontational. The victory of the right-wing was not at all anticipated by analysts. And after the verdict, there was a humongous chunk of population that called it plain wrong.
