Salil kicks the butt

Actor and host Salil Acharya has successfully managed to kick the butt. The fitness freak shares, “I used to smoke 40 cigarettes a day. I’ve always been a sportsperson but smoking exhausted me — I couldn’t swim, my voice got rougher, which is not ideal for an RJ. Also my dogs suffered from passive smoking. It made me irritable, and so one day I just discarded the pack of cigarettes that I had bought. I haven’t smoked ever since. I didn’t experience any peculiar withdrawal symptoms like irritation or headache. The only thing I miss is the time I used to have completely to myself in a day.”

Rithvik’s a flautist now: Rithvik Dhanjani, who’s known for his dancing abilities, has added yet another skill to his repertoire — playing the flute. The actor learnt the instrument when he was shooting for one of his shows. “I was narrating the story of a flautist and I had to learn the basics of the instrument for the episode. I also got the chance to hear him play. I fell so much in love with its sound that I continued learning how to play the flute with the help of online lessons. I’ve been at it for a couple of months now,” he says. Interestingly, this skill of his came in handy recently on a reality show too, where he could impress everyone present.

Bhupinder gets a Taekwondo black belt: Bhupinder Singh, who was recently in the news for his spat with a colleague on the set of Kaala Teeka, has a reason to smile now. The actor just got his black belt certificate in Taekwondo. Bhupinder, who started training eight years ago when he was offered a Tamil film, admits that the art has made him calmer. He says, “You do lose your temper and sometimes find yourself in situations that can get out of control. But martial arts makes you a disciplined individual. Spiritually, it has helped me immensely as an actor. You focus more on your body and mind.”

Indira can speak eight languages

It’s always an advantage for an actor to be fluent in multiple languages. However, Indira Krishnan can speak as many as eight languages. She has the same command over Oriya as she has over German. She says, “It’s because of my love for languages. I’m a Tamilian born and brought up in Mumbai. I picked up German when my father was transferred there. When I started my career, I got a chance to do an Oriya film. Since they refused to use a dubbing artiste, I had to learn the language. Over the years, I have also become fluent in Telugu, Malayalam and Gujarati. My diverse roles also helped me master so many languages.” Indira will now be seen playing a devdasi in 'Krishnadasi'. “For the first time, I will have a Marathi get-up,” she says.

Guess what? Ridheema Tiwari was born Shweta Tiwari: It could have been a classic case of identity crisis due to the same name. Before Ridheema Tiwari entered the industry, she was called Shweta Tiwari. However, since there was already a popular actress by the same name, she changed hers to avoid any confusion. “I would often get mistaken for Shweta Tiwari of Kasautii Zindagii Kay fame. On several occasions, I have landed up for a look test only to be told that they were looking for the other Shweta. That prompted me to change the name. It was embarrassing for me.” Ridheema has now changed the spelling of her name to Ridhyma M Tiwaare for better prospects. “I feel more peace within and I feel in sync with the universe.”

Sidhanth owns 60 pairs of shoes: Sidhanth Gupta is one of those who believe in the phrase `shoes maketh the man'. No wonder then that he owns more than 60 pairs of them. He says, “I don't mind splurging on a pair of good shoes. I'm obsessed about footwear, and they feature on my shopping list everytime I go on a trip.“ The actor recently took a break from the shoot of his TV show Tashan-E-Ishq. “I visited London to ring in my friend's birthday . It was supposed to be a laid-back trip, and the plan was to spend time with him and his family . But I ended up going on a shopping spree. I bought 13 pairs of chic, comfortable shoes. They occupy a prominent space in my home,“ he says. But isn't this obsession usually associated with women? “Shoes have nothing to do with gender. They are an important part of a person's wardrobe, and I'm quite proud of my collection,“ he laughs. Rithvik Dhanjani: I weighed 130 kilos in school

Rithvik might be very fit now, but he tells us things were pretty different for him in school. He says, “I was fat and weighed 130 kilos back then. Now I get many compliments about my dance moves and voice, but it wasn’t so in my earlier days.” Once he decided that he had to cut all the flab, there was no looking back. About his decision to become an actor, he says, “I was 15 when I had first acted in a school play. And even though I had no dialogues, I fell in love with acting. Ever since, I have been following my dream.”

Gautam Rode is a watch collector

Gautam Rode is a stickler for punctuality. The actor makes sure that he is on time for any appointment — be it for a meeting or a shoot. So, it’s not surprising to learn that he’s passionate about watches, and boasts of a collection of over 30 watches.

"I believe there is a lot to achieve in this one life,” he says, adding, “So, I like to be on time wherever I am going and expect the same from others as well.” Speaking about his collection, Gautam shares, “My shopping abroad is incomplete if I haven’t picked up a couple of watches. It’s not just a great accessory, but a necessity for me.” While he has watches to ensure that he is never defeated by time, on the acting front, he listens to emotional songs when he has to perform a sad sequence.

Recently when he shot for a death sequence of his onscreen mother in 'Suryaputra Karna', the actor put on 'Main Kabhi Batlata Nahi' (Taare Zameen Par) to prepare himself for the scene. “Music helps set the mood. So, before such a sequence, it’s always good to get into the mood. The song is one of my personal favourites,” he says.

Vrushika makes her co-actors dance to her tunes: Don’t be intimidated by Vrushika Mehta’s weird postures when you catch her during a break on the set of her show 'Satrangi Sasural'. Since the professional dancer doesn’t get enough time to practice her dance moves owing to her hectic schedule, she is often seen rehearsing and stretching to keep in touch with her passion. What’s more, the actress gets her co-actors to join her in her dance escapades. She has also started a routine called ‘the step of the day’, where she teaches a step to everyone on the set in between scenes or during a break.

Shruti learnt flamenco during her vacation: Shruti Bapna, who plays Divyanka Tripathi’s elder sister in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, was on a 25-day break recently. And as she left for London and Spain to satiate the traveller in her, she turned it into a ‘learning holiday’. She learnt Spanish and flamenco, the traditional dance in Spain. “Flamenco has a strong influence of Rajasthani folk dance and Kathak — especially the hand and foot movements,” she says, adding, “It was a liberating experience and I didn’t want to come back. But then here I am, back to my daily routine and Mumbai traffic. The first few days were difficult at the shoot as I was too enthusiastic for my character in the show, which is older than my real age.”

Srishty is losing sleep over her voice: Srishty Rode, who will be seen in Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, has a habit of talking in her sleep since childhood. She says, “I talk in English, Urdu and in a South Indian accent. My family found it amusing at first. My mom would come to me with various queries when I was in that state and I would answer them correctly. But now no one sleeps in my room due to all the noise I make.” The actress also gets weird dreams every night. “I get up in the middle of the night, terrified only to realize that I was the one talking. It’s weird and scary! I have accepted this problem as a part of my life.”

Abhaas Mehta is a certified air diver: He is known for his portrayal of various negative characters, but what many might not be aware is that actor Abhaas Mehta, who was last seen as Betaal in Sinhasan Battisi, has not only studied law, but is also a certified commercial air diver now. “I have just returned from a four-month commercial diving course in Scotland. I plan to pursue it professionally. The experience has been extremely enriching.”

Ravi wants to get back to boxing some day: Ravi Bhatia, who was last seen as Salim in 'Jodha Akbar', was once an aspiring boxer. He says, “I started boxing when I was in school and won a bronze in the district level championship. I had also won a gold medal at Himachal State Open Boxing Championship. I always wanted to face the arc lights. So after winning the gold medal, I came to Mumbai.” And does he miss boxing? “Yes, I do. I want to get back to my first love some day. Given an opportunity, I would love to play the role of a boxer,” he says.

Sharad Kelkar dubbed in Hindi for 'Bahubali'

SS Rajamouli's mangnum opus 'Bahubali' was not only highly appreciated by cinema goers but also by film critics. The film broke all the previous records and went on to do an earth-shattering business at the box office. Everyone associated with the film has been proud of the venture and so is dashing actor Sharad Kelkar. Wondering why? Well here's the answer. We all know that the dashing actor is blessed with baritone voice but not many know that he was the voice behind 'Bahubali's' lead actor Prabhas. Yes, you read it right. Sharad Kelkar, who has dubbed for many films was the voice for Prabhas in the Hindi version of 'Bahubali'.

'When asked, how he bagged the project, Sharad shared, "I have dubbed for many English films but that was just for fun. It is like doing homework for different characters when I am not doing anything. I had dubbed for a Tamil film and they liked my voice. Soon I was brought on board for the project."

Disha Vakani in B Grade Movies:

A graduate in Dramatic Arts from Gujarat College, Disha Vakani is a daughter of noted Gujarati theatre personality Bhim Vakani. This influenced Disha to start her acting career as a child artiste with her father. Most famous for playing the role of Daya Jethalal Gada on a comedic Indian television series called 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', she also appeared in such Bollywood films as Devdas and Love Story 2050. Daya jethalal gada ( Disha vakani) and her brother Sundar ( Mayur Vakani) are also brother and sister in real. The saree clad Daya Ben was also a part of the 1997 film 'Kamsin: The Untouched', a B-grade entertainer. Quite opposite to her Daya Ben character, who shies away from getting remotely close to her onscreen husband on the popular TV show. In 'Kamsin: The Untouched', Disha has not only shed the saree and worn skimpy clothes but has also given some really intimate scenes.

Aashka Goradia was Ekta Kapoor's ex secretary:

Aashka used to work as Ekta Kapoor’s secretary before becoming a popular small screen actress. Aashka recently launched a business venture with her boyfriend of three years Rohit Bakshi. The duo has opened a gola (ice candy) store called 'I Say Ice' in Andheri. Gurmeet Choudhary is an Indian model and actor who got immense popularity for the role of Lord Rama in the popular series 'Ramayana' in 2008. Karan Mehra, son of Construction Businessman Ajay Mehra was born on 10th September 1982 in Jalandhar, Punjab. The actor studied fashion designing from ‘National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi’. Before turning an actor, Karan worked as a fashion designer for 4 years in Noida. During the start of his career, he assisted directors Raju Hirani and Ram Gopal Verma. Karan took training from Kishore Namit Kapoor’s acting school. He did a brief cameo in movie ‘Love Story 2050’.
