. So, what prompted her to take up television after so long? “I have been an active TV host and was also busy doing character roles in films for all these years. But then working in films became frustrating. When I get a good role, the film doesn’t get noticed. But when I am part of a big-budget film, my role reduces to a blink-and-miss appearance. I was thinking of doing a television project for quite some time now. It was around this time, I got a call for this serial. Also, the channel and the production house are big names — so it is a win-win for me,” says Uma.

The serial is directed by

Sundar K Vijayan

. “He’s a well-known personality in the television scene. He gives the right kind of direction and space for an artiste, and is a delight to work with. In fact, the entire team has been part of successful projects in the past. So, they won’t compromise on the quality.”

On working for serial, she says, “Unlike films, this requires long-term commitment. Initially, it was difficult, but I am comfortable now. We have been shooting for a month now and I am used to the everyday schedule.”

Describing her role, Uma says, “The bond that’s portrayed between the mother and son is depicted very well. I think that’s the highlight of the role.”
