Negative roles just come to me: Devi Priya

Actress Devi Priya is not new to ruralthemed serials. She was previously seen in Thekkathi Ponnu, a story based on the caste system, directed by veteran P Bharathiraja. She is currently playing a negative role in Kalathu Veedu that airs on a popular television channel. She says, “Director Arul Rajan is an expert when it comes to handling rural stories.Everything from the language, clothes and food is authentic. We show how they celebrate festivals, how they welcome people and are so warm, their fights, their way of life. This serial shows some of the old traditions, rituals that people follow even today . We primarily shot in Theni and Cumbum. I believe that this is a lot like the film Paruthiveeran.“
Having played different kind of roles, Devi says negative characters are not something she chooses. “They just come to me, though I am not a great fan of negative characters. I have played several negative characters, but when I choose each role, I ensure it is different. If I raise my voice and roll my eyes in one serial, I am a subtle villain in another.Whatever it is, my role should stand out and be different,“ she says.
