World Television Day: Take a look at the iconic shows of Marathi TV

You can love or hate Marathi TV shows, but you can’t ignore them. Over the years, the characters, title tracks, and the stories of these TV shows have become an integral part of many lives. Be it Janhavi from Honaar Soon Mee Hyaa Gharchi or Abaa from Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre, these TV characters are timeless.

On the eve of World Television Day, here's a special list of some of the iconic TV shows ever on Marathi TV.

Vadalvaat

Vadalvaat, one of the oldest super hit Marathi TV shows made between 2006-2008 is the favourite of many. The show was a family drama which starred bigwigs like Prasad Oak, Aditi Sarangdhar, Arun Nalawde etc. Also, the title track of the show is still afresh in the minds of Marathi viewers.

Abhalmaya

Abhalmaya was the life story of Sudha’s struggle to raise her three daughters, balancing her professional and personal life. It was the first commercial daily Marathi TV soap and still enjoys a huge cult following. The show brought many good actors like Shreyas Talpade, Manava Naik, Harshada Khanvilkar and others into limelight.

Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre

The show Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre is a sitcom which is based on a typical middle-class Maharashtrian family. The show portrayed the peculiar traits, interests, and aspirations of every person in the family. Senior actors like Dilip Prabhavalkar, Shubhangi Gokhale have acted in this show.

Unch Maaza Zoka

The show depicted the life story of the social activist Ramabai Ranade. It was a historical show which featured her entire journey. Though the show wrapped up long back, its title track is still evergreen. Even today, it is the mobile ringtone of many fans.

Honaar Soon Mee Hyaa Gharchi

The show was a love story of Janhavi and a businessman named Shrirang, who lived with his grandmother and five more women whom he treats as his mother. Dialogues were indeed the real asset of the show. Not just that, the mangalsutra (three-stranded) that the lead actress wore in the show indeed became a trend among Maharashtrian women. Honaar Soon Mee Hyaa Gharchi completed more than 808 episodes and concluded on 24 January 2016.

Chala Hawa Yeu Dya

Chala Hawa Yeu Dya is a comedy show which started on 18th August, 2014 and is still running successfully. The show invites celebrities from various fields on the sets and the cast entertains with the comical acts.

Bokya Satbande

The show was based on the popular book series by Dilip Prabhavalkar. This show was telecast in the late nineties which showcased the adventures of a young boy called Bokya.

Home Minister

Home Minister is a Marathi game show which is hosted by Aadesh Bandekar. It is the most popular and longest-running show on Marathi TV with a successful run of more than 14 years. The host visits various homes and gets housewives to participate in games and tasks rewarding the winner with prize money and Paithani sarees.

Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta

The show starred some bigwigs of the Marathi industry like Mukta Barve and Swapnil Joshi. The storyline of this show revolved around two youngsters, Radha and Ghanashyam and their ideologies. Due to its popularity, the show was later made into a mini film titled 'Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta-Cinematic' and was telecast on 20 January, 2013, in memory of the show.
