From making rotis on a burning pyre for survival to sleeping in cemeteries: when late social worker Sindhutai Sapkal had made shocking revelations on 'Khupte Tithe Gupte'

The renowned social worker who was known as 'mother of orphans' Sindhu Tai Sapkal (74) passed away on Tuesday evening, January 4. She succumbed to a heart attack at a hospital in Pune. Sindhutai, who has a motivational life story, inspired many with her sacrifices, pain, and struggle. During a Marathi chat show 'Khupte Tithe Gupte' Sindhu Tai had revealed many unheard stories about her life. Sindhu Tai also told the host Avadhoot Gupte while narrating her life story that her journey taught her many things and also revealed the true colours of many. Take a look (PC - Instagram)

On the show, Sindhutai spoke about her early days in life and said that her mother threw her out of the house at the age of 20 and forced her to marry a guy who was much older than her. Sindhu Tai said, "I got married at the age of 20. My mother threw me out and asked me to marry a guy who was so older. But he also left me to die when I was pregnant. But I had to survive. I did not want to die so early and have to live for my 10 day old baby. I saw a few beggars on the streets who were singing on railway platforms and they also were getting food and money from the people so I decided to do the same. I joined the beggars and started singing along with them. I got food from people and that's how I survived".

Talking about the treatment that she received from her husband and how her husband beat her when she was nine months pregnant and left her to die in the cow pen. Sindhutai said, "My husband was a majdoor who would work on daily wages but someone told him that the baby who is there inside my stomach is not his baby and someone else's. He got angry and pushed me, kicked me on my stomach. I became unconscious after that and he pulled me and took me to the cow pen. Many cows were tied there and he left them open thinking they would trouble me but nothing happened like that. I gave birth to a baby when I was unconscious but when I woke up and I saw the cows were looking at my baby and protecting it. I hugged the cows and cried hard."

Talking about how she raised her baby by begging on the streets, Sindhutai revealed, "I have done many things which a mother can't even think of doing it. When I delivered my baby I was in a Cow pen and the placenta was attached to it and to separate the placenta I took the rock which was nearby, closed my eyes and separated it from the baby. I once wanted to die with my baby so I sat on the railway track but I looked at my baby and felt like he was telling me 'why you gave me birth if you wanted to kill me" and I saw a train coming and decided to step back and ran from the railway track."

Sindhutai further revealed a shocking story where she spoke about how would spend her nights at the cemeteries and Shamashan Bhumi. Sindhutai said, "I realized that people only visit Shamshan Bhumi when their relative or friends die. They only enter the area when someone passes away so I started living there like my own house. I also cooked rotis on the burning pyre to survive myself and my baby. I was scared but I had to do these things for my survival. I also started sleeping there at night to avoid being picked up by men. (PC - Instagram)

Sindhutai further inspired everyone with her motivitional quote and said, "Andhera toh harr roj hota hai but humein ye dekhna hai ki subah bhi toh hoti hai." I believed that one day my good days will come and these phases would pass and that's what happened." (PC - Instagram)
