Every actress has a desire to play a role that should elicit her acting potentials to the maximum and actress
Shruja Prabhudesai
got the opportunity as
Kaveri in the
show Sukhi Mansacha Sadara
’. The actress earlier played a grey shade character in the
TV show Durva
and now playing a completely different character on-screen. Shruja exclusively spoke to ETimes TV and revealed about bagging the role of Kaveri and why this time she wanted to focus on her performance more rather than her looks.
Talking about playing Kaveri in Sukhi Mansacha Sadara, she said, "This was a
conscious decision
that was taken after a lot of thinking. I never wanted to be stereotyped as a negative character. I thought that this indeed is a good opportunity to showcase to the audience the versatile side in me as an actress. So after portraying a lead negative character in Durva, I was very conscious about the character to choose next. It’s completely opposite to what I have portrayed in Durva.
The actress feels portraying a simple character on-screen is difficult. Shruja said, "To show the simplicity in the character was my first and the foremost priority. It is really very challenging to show and portray simplicity on screen and that’s what every artist searches for. Challenges which would result into creating something spectacular. That process is really unique and hence I agreed to play this role.
Shruja said that she was searching for a character where she can showcase the performance rather than looks. She said, "One more reason that I would like to mention is the way this character looks. Her looks are really very simple, not heavy on makeup and the way she dresses is also very simple. I was searching for such a simple yet powerful character to play. A role where your performance will do the talking more than your looks. And to portray humour while being as simple as possible is a whole new challenging task. When such a character comes knocking at your door in career, you can’t miss that opportunity.
Shruja further said that playing Kaveri on-screen was a task. She stated, "The real challenging task was mental preparation. In the back of your mind, the character is always prepping up. So, it’s a not very easy process to be mentally prepare for a character in a day or two. It’s a long and sometimes never-ending process. Also I wanted to make this character different, a housewife who is capable, independent and also intelligent with a touch of humour.”
