The death of a 24-year old Vismaya from Kerala has sparked outrage in the state. Before taking the extreme step, Vismaya SV had sent a message to her family on whatsapp that she had been repeatedly beaten up by her husband Kiran Kumar, demanding more dowry.

In light of this unfortunate incident, social media is flooded with posts protesting against dowry.

Malayalam TV celebs are also raising their voice against dowry.

"Dear parents, make your daughters strong and build their self-confidence, make her independent so that her life is not dependent on anyone. promise her, you will be there for her always, no matter what. so that she can live too. Rest in peace my dear sister," wrote Bigg Boss Malayalam 3 contestant Dimpal Bhal.


On the other hand, Bigg Boss fame and model Shiyas Kareem also penned a note against the dowry system. The model also emphasised that getting a divorce from an abusive husband is not a bad thing.

For the unversed, Vismaya's husband Kumar is an official with the motor transport department. The two got married last year on May 31. Vismaya’s father told the media that he had been given 1.2 acres, a car worth Rs 10 lakh and 100 sovereigns of gold as dowry for her wedding. Vismaya’s brother Vijith and her father were adamant that Vismaya would never commit suicide and it was a clear case of murder.
