Super Dancer fame Swarna Thomas: I lost hope when doctors said it'll take years even to walk after that accident but I believed in myself
Back in 2010, a young girl became a sensation in Kerala after winning the title of 'Super Dancer 2'. But, years later, she met with an accident, and doctors opined that she may not even stand on her feet for years. However, the young girl, with her passion and determination is back on the stage with some smashing performances. She is none other than Swarna Thomas, who made headlines recently after her interview on the show 'Red Carpet'. ETimes TV got in touch with her and here is all about her inspiring life story.
Swarna, a chirpy young girl was passionate to become a dancer from a very young age. Born to a father who is a professional dancer, her love for the art was never a coincidence.
"One day, I told Papa that I am going to dance at the school. He was surprised. Later, I auditioned for 'Dance India Dance'. Out of thousands of talented dancers, I got the selection from Terence sir. Later, I got a chance in 'Super Dancer 2'. Even though I didn't know Malayalam, I managed to excel in the show and I could win it.
But, destiny had something unfortunate for her. In 2013, Swarna met with an accident and she reportedly suffered major spine, pelvic, and lung injuries.
"It was a rainy day on June 19. I was wearing heels and I went to the balcony where the grill was not fixed. I slipped and fell down from the 5th floor. I was rushed to the hospital. Diagnosed with severe pelvic fracture, spine crack, and lung injuries, even the doctors panicked. During treatment, I asked my doctor when I will be able to dance again, and he replied that I would take at least five years to stand on my own feet. I lost hope too. But, I believed in God. I asked him 'Why me? What did I do for this?'," she recollected.
However, after nine years, Swarna made a comeback to TV with the show 'Panam Tharum Padam', and later, she was also seen in 'Red Carpet', the same floor where she bagged the 'Super Dancer' title years before.
"I was determined to come back, it took me nine years, but I am happy to be back. Now I can walk and even dance with my stick. The journey is painful, but it's worth it. I was afraid to dance on stage again. But, the recognition I am getting within two shows has proven that I am back with a bang," the dancer shared.
Ask Swarna about her biggest dream in life now, she says she wanted to represent the country globally by dancing with her stick.
"I don't want anyone's sympathy, but yes I request support. There are many people who dance in wheelchairs. I want to be the first one who represents my country globally, dancing with a stick. May this 'dance with pain' inspire some. I have started my journey, I want to finish it with a blast. I just have one thing to tell everyone, we all have that strength to fight and spark to succeed, use it. I believed in it and see, now I am standing," Swarna concluded.
Kala Master
and Sudha Chandran were surely my inspiration then. Kala Master suggested trying the Tamil industry and that's when I didManadu Mayiladu
and won the title there too,"Swarna
