Veteran filmmaker and TV professional, Shyamprasad has bagged the Kerala government’s highest visual media award--Television Lifetime Achievement Award. Honouring his contributions to the Malayalam television sector, Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cheriamn announced the award here on Friday.
The award carrying a cash prize of ₹2 lakhs, a citation, and a statuette, was declared by a jury headed by veteran journalist Sasikumar, the recipient of the first edition of the award, and consisting of journalist Baiju Chandran, writer-journalist R. Parvathi Devi, and Kerala State Chalachitra Academy secretary C. Ajoy Chandran.
The jury observed that Shyamaprasad over 10 years from 1984 used all possibilities of the medium to make quality content for Doordarshan. Later, he also made remarkable contributions in private channels too.
The National award-winning filmmaker, Shyamaprasad is one of the notable directors in Mollywood. His movies 'Ritu', 'Akale' and others are still hailed to be masterpieces. On the TV front, Shyamaprasad has made history with some of the daily soaps in Doordarshan as well as private channels. Currently, he is the President (Productions) of a popular GEC channel in Malayalam.
