is set to make his big screen debut with

Swapnasundari

, a romance helmed by debutant KJ Philip. The film is set in a rural milieu in the tea estates of Poopara and Shantanpara in Idukki and along the Tamil Nadu border in Theni district and is centred around the romance of a village girl and a boy from Ernakulam.

Speaking about the film and his role, Rajith Kumar says, “I play panchayat president Zachariah Punnoose. The titular Swapnasundari is the village girl. While the film is a romance, the story is driven forward by the mysterious deaths of some women and the investigation around it.”

While the film has several new faces, Rajith Kumar is a central character. “I am pleased that I was able to be part of this project and support the newcomers, including the director and producer. We shot while maintaining all the safety protocols, but the numbers were low in Idukki anyway,” he says.

Rajith Kumar has finished his shoot and the film is expected to be ready for release by end-December or January. “If theatres are not open by then, the makers will consider OTT,” he says. The film has four songs sung by Pradeep Palluruthy of Vethyasthanamoru Balan-fame. The DOP is Royitta-Sanoop. The script is by Seethu Anson.
