When Mandya Ramesh went to Melbourne
Veteran theatre personality and actor Mandya Ramesh is not only a popular name on his home turf but also on the international front.
“It clearly is one of the most memorable trips, even though I have been abroad many times before. I got a glimpse of the kind of love and respect our people have for their mother tongue in spite of living thousands of miles away from home,” he says.
First up was a stop at Washington DC. “I witnessed a series of plays put up by the Kannadigas based there; it was followed by a brief discussion about my insights regarding their performances. I got a look at Donald Trump’s house and while at it, I also spotted a group of silent protestors outside. America was a lot of fun and intellectually stimulating,” adds Mandya Ramesh.
Soon it was time to head Down Under. And there he was joined by music maestro Hamsalekha and Tulu actor Naveen Padil with whom he shares screen space on the TV show Majaa Talkies. “We were invited by a mega Kannada group that actively promotes Kannada culture in Australia. It was heartwarming indeed,” he states.
Kannadigas

, Brisbane and Sydney were on the roster and at the end of the tour, Mandya Ramesh was one happy man. “Our language is so deeply entrenched in foreign shores and there couldn’t have been a better gift than witnessing it first hand,” he wraps up.Top Comment
