Kannada actress-host Anushree slams cyberbullying, Calls online abuse ‘mental harassment’
Popular Kannada television anchor Anushree has spoken out against cyberbullying, shedding light on the emotional toll of online abuse and the double standards faced by women in the public eye.
In a recent interview, Anushree expressed anguish over the verbal attacks and derogatory comments she has encountered on social media. She described such behaviour as a form of “mental harassment,” stating that the impact of online abuse can often be more painful than physical suffering.
The anchor strongly criticised societal hypocrisy, pointing out that men and women are judged differently for similar achievements. She remarked that when a man succeeds, it is celebrated as an accomplishment, but when a woman achieves the same, it is often scrutinised and questioned.
Opening up about her personal experiences, Anushree revealed that she has faced extremely hurtful comments from anonymous users. She described these remarks as “tearing apart” her emotions and admitted that such relentless negativity had pushed her to the brink of distress, even bringing her to tears.
Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, she said that while physical assault is widely acknowledged, psychological abuse in the form of online trolling remains underestimated. She stressed that such “mental attacks” can deeply affect an individual’s well-being.
Despite her cheerful on-screen persona, Anushree’s journey has not been easy. Coming from humble beginnings, she built her career from scratch while supporting her family, eventually becoming one of the most recognised faces on Kannada television.
Currently, she continues to remain active in the entertainment industry, hosting popular shows and engaging audiences with her vibrant presence. However, her recent statements serve as a stark reminder of the hidden struggles faced by celebrities behind the glamour.
