‘I hear that girls are trying to be like my onscreen character, Amulya’… says Kannada TV actress Nisha Ravikrishnan

… says Kannada TV's latest sensation, actress Nisha Ravikrishnan
Juggling between hectic TV schedules and college is no easy task, but actress Nisha Ravikrishnan cannot imagine life otherwise. Especially since her latest TV show Gattimela, has given her the kind of adulation and popularity that every actor dreams of.
“My father used to perform in street plays. Watching him inspired me to pursue performance art. I started my career as a Carnatic singer and dancer. After I took up assignments on television as a host, I got the opportunity to appear in a song in the Kannada film,

Ishtakamya

. After that, there were a couple of TV shows

and Sarvamangala Mangalye, in which I played different characters. My show Gattimela came much after that, but has helped me connect with audiences in a big way,” explains Nisha.

The actress plays an outspoken character in this show. “The story focuses on a middle-class family. Despite all their financial struggles, siblings find a way to stay happy. I play a character called Amulya, who is the complete opposite of how I am in real life. I am an introvert who takes time to make friends. My character is that of an extrovert who stands up for herself and her family and society at large. This seems to have struck a chord with the audience. Today, I have people addressing me with my onscreen name from this show. I have heard that girls are trying to be like my onscreen character. That’s a great source of encouragement,” she says.
