Kannada television is slowly but surely on the path to experimentation. The latest is Maja Talkies which has been working towards including popular artistes from various regions in its format. And that is how South Kanara’s own
Naveen Padil is now on the show. Having already made a name for himself in Tulu theatre, drama and films, Naveen forayed into mainstream television with Maja Talkies.
The highlight is that he speaks in Mangalurean Kannada and it has found much acceptance among viewers. “He plays the role of a man who is always in an inebriated state, so he comes up with witty one liners. Of course, it has been our mission to make the show more inclusive when it comes to languages, which is why we have Mandya Ramesh who represents the Mandya heartland, Shwetha Changappa who is from Coorg and now Naveen is from the Karavali region. It just adds to the flavour of the show,” says Thejasvi, creative director of the talk show.
