While Kannada film stars, quite like their counterparts in other languages, are making a beeline to play hosts on TV shows,
Sandalwood producers seem to be crying foul. The latter state that the star presence on the telly is eating into the revenue for films as the audience is getting to see their favourite stars a lot more easily, more frequently and even at their candid best.
With bigwigs like
Sudeep,
Puneeth Rajkumar, Ramesh Aravind among others having a strong presence on the small screen, producers have complained that it may soon kill the exclusive value that a star commands on the big screen. The Kannada film industry is one among the smaller industries in the country and to ensure every creative medium continues to make ends meet, TV stars need to stop turning hosts here.
News has it that Kannada star Ganesh, who was originally from the small screen, has stalled his return to the telly for this very reason. The debate continues.
