Exclusive: Cult serial Mayamruga all set for a comeback
Cult-classic soap opera
Mayamruga
, which recently made a huge comeback via a YouTube channel, is ready to take a leap. Titled
Matte Mayamruga
, the serial is set to play on TV screens soon.
The new version will also see three original directors – TN Seetharam, P Sheshadri and Nagendra Sha – helming the serial. The muhurat of the serial was held recently and the streaming is expected to start soon.
Speaking about
Matte Mayamruga
, TNS says: “The serial will be a breath of fresh air.
There are a lot of characters from
Mayamruga
. Like a relay race, these old characters will pass on the baton and make way for the next generation in the serial.”
“The theme of both the serials is same – changing scenario of the middle class. While
Mayamruga
dealt with families elevating from lower-middle class to middle class in a world that was constantly changing,
Matte Mayamruga
will see the middle class making it to the upper-middle class bracket. We are seeing a lot of exaggerated versions of the world – the high-strung version. Our aim, through the serial, is to cool it off,” he adds.
Like all his other serials,
Matte Mayamruga
too, will be led by women. Megha, Siri Ravikumar and others have been finalised to play the new-gen characters.
Even after 24 years, the title song of
Mayamruga
is still fresh in the minds of the audience. TNS says they have retained the original title track penned by KS Narasimhaswamy and composed by C Ashwath, but with Praveen D Rao embellishing it a little bit to cater to the new-gen audience.
Conversation with TNS is incomplete without remembering his guru, ace director
Puttanna Kanagal. TNS says: “He taught me how to depict women’s heart rather than women’s mind. How women respond to situations through their heart, while letting the intellect take a backseat.”
Can we also see CSP making a comeback as a flag-bearer of truth and justice? “Definitely yes. He is more matured now, just like me,” TNS laughs. “He is not very angry anymore, a little impatient, maybe,” TNS signs off.
Apart from this,
Matte Manvantara
is also on cards, but for an OTT platform, and the makers are in the last leg of finalising the project.
