The serial, which aired over 78 episodes, is based on the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana which is about the journey of Rama who goes into exile of 14 years along with Sita and Lakshman. The show, which premiered in 1987, struck a chord with television viewers. The

serial

directed by

Ramsagar

, has Deepika Chikhalia, Arun Govil,

Sunil Lahri

, Arvind Trivedi, Dara Singh and many others in lead roles. Ramayan is the latest serial to join the growing number of dubbed serials that are going on air since the lockdown was enforced. The dubbed mythological serials which are currently on air are Radha Krishna, Mahabaratha and historical serial Ashoka Chakrvarathy. The only mythoglical serial made by Kannada makers which is going on air is Ughe Ughe Mahadeshwara which stopped airing due to lack of fresh episodes.

Many Kannada actors and technicians have expressing apprehension over dubbed serials becoming the latest trend on Kannada television, which would snatch the jobs of local artistes who are depending on television to eke out their living. Now, almost every Kannada general entertainment channel has dubbed content to captivate television viewers. Several actors have opposed the channels' growing tryst with dubbed content which is setting a bad precedent.
