Actress
Deepika Das, known for her roles in Kannada television and films, has broken her silence following a viral video of Rocking Star
Yash’s mother, Pushpa, where she seemingly dismissed Deepika’s worthiness for a role in her future film productions. The incident, now a hot topic in Sandalwood circles, has ignited fresh discussions about family ties, respect within the industry, and the challenges faced by independent artists.
The controversy began when Pushpa, who recently made her debut as a film producer with Kothalavadi, was asked during a promotional interview whether she would consider casting Deepika Das in one of her upcoming ventures. The question appeared to provoke Pushpa, who retorted sharply:
"Why do you always ask about her? There are so many heroines in the industry — Ramya, Rakshita, others. What has Deepika achieved to deserve this special mention?"
This offhand remark, perceived by many as dismissive and disrespectful, quickly gained traction on social media. Clips from the interview were widely circulated, sparking speculation about deeper family tensions and raising eyebrows over the public nature of Pushpa’s criticism.
Deepika Das, who rose to fame with her role in the popular TV serial Naagini and later gained household recognition through Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7, responded with a heartfelt and firm statement on social media. Writing in Kannada, she expressed her disappointment over the way she was spoken about, emphasizing that mutual respect should transcend status or fame.
"People who nurture new artists should also learn to respect them," Deepika wrote.
"Till now, I have not used anyone's name to gain a foothold in the film industry. Whether it is Amma or Pushpamma, with due respect to the star of our industry, no one has the right to speak badly about me."
Further in her post, Deepika stressed that respecting someone should not be seen as a sign of fear:
"Showing respect to someone should not be mistaken for fear. Even if I am not a big achiever, I still deserve respect. No one can talk to me without respect."
The incident has also reignited conversations around the alleged rift between the two families. Pushpa is the maternal aunt of Deepika Das, and that technically makes Yash, one of Kannada cinema’s biggest stars, Deepika’s cousin. However, both Yash and Deepika have consistently maintained a public distance from one another, never acknowledging their family ties openly nor appearing together in public events.
