India is battling the second wave of COVID-19 and our healthcare systems are facing extreme challenges. From the shortage of hospital beds to lack of oxygen supply, the entire nation is facing an emergency situation.
Amid the pandemic, in a yearning to reduce the blood shortage burden on the country, Kannada
actress Yamuna Shrinidhi
has urged people to donate blood ahead of getting vaccinated.
On the occasion of her birthday, the actress stepped out to donate blood. Speaking exclusively to ETimes TV, the actress addressed the social cause as blood banks are in need of supply to save lives during these trying times.
"I was introduced to
blood donation
during my NCC (
National Cadet Corps) days when I was 18 years old and still continues. In fact, NCC training has laid the foundation for my response to social concerns," she shares.
She continues saying, "I am back to donate blood as the
Covid 19
is not the only crisis the human race is facing right now. Emergency heart surgeries, cancer treatments, accidental emergencies, emergency childbirth surgeries are in need of blood and the blood banks are in need of supply to save lives during these trying times."
The actress further urged to help those in need of blood in this tough time. She also threw light on the need to donate blood before getting vaccinated.
"The COVID- 19 vaccination drive that would prevent one from donating for 28 days. This will become even worse in the coming days. We need to act responsibly and try to do our bit to balance the shortage of blood in the blood banks. One unit of blood donation can potentially save up to three lives," she sums up.
