I don’t want to be the hero who looks the same in every show -- Zaan Khan
Even though Zaan Khan started his acting journey with films, he considers television his home ground. That’s why he doesn’t plan to quit the small screen even if he explores other mediums. The actor, who took a short break from television to venture into films in 2021, will be seen as the male lead in Kuch Reet Jagat Ki Aisi Hai.
The actor, who was also a part of Maitree and Vanshaj, says, “I love working in television because it keeps me occupied. Mera ghar chalta hai usse. It’s essential for someone like me who comes from a middle-class background to have a stable income and try for films on the side. TV aapko woh sab kuchh de deta hai jo shaayad paanch films na de paayein. Also, it is the best medium to learn, grow, and shine.”
He adds, “I can’t understand why people undermine or belittle television actors. We work 14 hours a day, 30 days a month, and deliver monologues. It’s no mean feat. Unlike films, we deliver non-stop and don’t get breaks between shooting a project. We just need an opportunity to prove our mettle. When I get an opportunity to be part of a big film, I want people to recognise me as a hardworking TV actor who made it to the big screen.”

The actor emphasises the importance of being visible to be offered more work. He says, “A lot of my industry friends advise me to wait for a film offer. However, I am not in favour of taking a break from television. Chaahe aap kitne bhi bade star bann jaao, par agar aap ek saal TV par nahi dikhoge toh koi peeche se oopar aa kar dikhne lagega. I don’t want to take that risk. I strongly believe in jitna dikhoge utna bikoge. In pursuit of films, you may lose many good opportunities on television because it’s a time-consuming process.”

For now, Zaan is preparing for his character in his new TV show. He shares, “I portray a quintessential Gujarati character and have been learning the language for the past three months. As an artiste, I like to experiment with both my roles and looks. I don’t want to be the hero who looks the same in every show. Along with reinventing your acting skills, you need to reinvent your looks with every show.”
