Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame actor Ashish Kapoor, who was arrested on September 2 in Pune in an alleged gang rape case, has been sent to 14 days’ judicial custody. As per a report in ANI, Delhi's Tis Hazari Court on Saturday remanded the actor in 14 days of judicial custody after police interrogation. On Sunday, investigators informed the court that they still need to retrieve the woman’s phone, which she alleges was taken away during the incident, along with the electronic devices belonging to the accused. The incident came to light in the early hours of August 11, when the woman reported to police that she had been sexually assaulted by four men at a party.“In her complaint, she said that she was at home on Sunday when she received a call from her friend who invited her to a party at the house of an acquaintance in Civil Lines,” said an officer. In her statement, she added that after consuming alcohol, she began to feel disoriented.She alleged that the men then took her to a washroom where they gang-raped and physically assaulted her while recording the incident. The woman further claimed that the accused threatened to release the video on social media if she informed the police. After being dropped outside her Punjabi Bagh residence, she immediately contacted authorities.Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered at Civil Lines police station on August 11 under section 64 (punishment for rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.According to police, the 40-year-old actor managed to avoid arrest for nearly three weeks. He was first tracked down in Goa but managed to escape to Pune, where he was eventually caught last Tuesday at a friend’s residence. Police confirmed on Sunday that Kapoor underwent a medical potency examination at AIIMS, and the results are still pending.According to the police, the complainant first alleged that Kapoor, along with the friend who organised the house party and two unidentified men, had sexually assaulted her. She further stated that another woman had physically attacked her. Police stated that the woman later revised her statement, alleging that only Kapoor was responsible and had raped her. Officials added that the case, initially registered as gang rape, will be modified to charges of rape as the investigation proceeds.
