, has been away from the small screen for more than three years now. She gained popularity as Gayatri or Gayu on Yeh Rishta, but in 2017 she decided to quit the show. In a recent chat with us, the actress revealed what she was up to these days.

“I left my show to get into Bollywood and that is happening now after three' and-a-half years. I will start shooting for it in the end of this month in

Bhopal

. I am glad that I'm returning to acting with a movie; my excitement levels are touching the sky right now,” shares Kanchi.

So what was she doing in the three years? She reveals, “I was totally focusing on myself. I knew the contemporary form of dancing, but I learned

Bharatnatyam

from a guru because I think it is important too for an actor. Other than that, I lost a lot of weight, started going to the gym regularly, and took care of my diet. I am not following any special diet, of course, it's just ghar ka khana.”

She did get quite a few television offers in the last couple of years, she says. While she didn't like some of them, the ones she was fine with did not materialise for various reasons.

But she has no regrets and is gearing up for a new chapter in her career now. So was Bollywood always on her mind and TV just a stepping stone to achieving that dream?

“Every individual who aspires to be an actor wants to be a movie star. That's always the goal and the same applies to me too. I am a TV star but now is the time when I'm ready to start my Bollywood journey. But that doesn’t mean that if something good comes up in television, I will let it go. Whatever I am today is because of the TV industry and my love for TV will never fade away,” shares Kanchi.
