Want to evolve and grow as an actor even now: Rajendra Gupta is back on TV after four and half years
Veteran
Gupta’s name was included in the Limca Book of Records for appearing in the highest number of television shows. What made him take a break from the small screen? He replies, “It was a deliberate effort to take a break from TV. It was a much needed break as I got tired of working in daily soaps, so I moved to Bollywood. Also, TV does not sell your name but only your face. While Bollywood takes you to every Indian household. Indian cinema also gives commercial success overnight and financial security, which is not the same in the case of TV. In fact, I find working in TV similar to working in a factory which hampers one's creativity to a great extent.”
Gupta who is now in his 70s, is still active and wants to continue acting and take up more projects, despite his age. “Every actor creates his own slot. The sky is the limit for those who want to work. An actor just needs to explore and evolve. Age ke sath roles kam nahin hote, hume apni umar ke hisab se roles choose karne hote hain. I am never completely satisfied after a shot, in fact I always try to give my best. There is a continuous yearning to be better than my best. And that’s the reason that I am still active, be it theatre, TV or films,” he signs off.
