VJing is dead now: Cyrus Sahukar

VJ-turned-actor Cyrus Sahukar on changing tracks in his professional and personal lives
VJing is dead now: Cyrus Sahukar
Actor-VJ Cyrus Sahukar’s visit to Lucknow caught us by surprise. For, it wasn’t until we spotted him at a hotel in the city that we got to know he is also part of the Hollywood film being shot in India these days.
For the love of lucknow
But this wasn’t Cyrus’s first visit to the city. And although a little roundabout, he says he has a connection with Lucknow: “I got my first job at the age of 15, in radio jockeying from a Lucknowite and now a known director, Roshan Abbas.
I was blown away by the radio job and was super excited to work with Roshan, I also helped him in production work,” says Cyrus, “I have come here several times too. I just love this place!” He must really love the city, for Cyrus informs us that he will be coming to Lucknow for a 10-day break in October! That’s quite a first!
Funny family
Coming to his first love - humour, “My sense of humour comes from the women around me. Ever since I was a child, I was always surrounded by women - starting from my sister, my mom and my grandmother. How can you not go crazy with so many women around you? And in my family everyone is crazy. We actually can’t talk to each other without making fun of each other. We have no secrets. And let me tell you, it is a myth that comedians are not jovial in real life, or that they have very sad lives. I agree that most comedians use humour as a shield to block away bad experiences, but that doesn’t mean they are serious people in real life,” he points out.

Ready, steady marriage
Talking about his love interest, Cyrus was last linked with actress Sonam Kapoor when they worked together in Aisha and Delhi 6, but it turned out to be just another rumour from the gossip mill. However, Cyrus is not single anymore. “I am dating someone, seriously this time. And when I say seriously, I mean I see my future with her. I didn’t go for a serious relationship earlier because of the lifestyle we actors have. I mean we don’t lead a normal life. Our job timings are not fixed, most of the time we are travelling, we have an irregular lifestyle, which girl on this earth would understand that? But now I am ready to settle down,” he says confidently, adding, “I have realised that you need someone special in your life. My parents got divorced when I was just four years old. That does affect your thinking, I always used to think whether I will make a good husband. But now I am looking forward to having a family.”
VJs face the music
On the professional front, though Cyrus hasn’t bagged any lead roles in Bollywood, he’s happy with the way his career is shaping up. “It takes a lot get a lead role in Bollywood and believe you me, I am working at it continuously. So what if I haven’t had a hit Bollywood movie, I have had hit TV shows yaar,” says Cyrus, who was a VJ for years before he turned to movies. “VJing is dead now,” he says, “You can see that for yourself as most of the music channels are being converted into General Entertainment Channels featuring serials. It is a financial decision and is the need of the hour. Even though it is possible for music channels to sustain themselves solely on music, they want to offer variety to their viewers.”
