Vineet Raina: With the rise of the internet, fitness knowledge isn’t just limited anymore, it’s widespread
Vineet Raina, who is known for his performances in shows like Punar Vivah, Lapataganj - Ek Baar Phir, Tum Hi Ho Bandhu Sakha Tumhi, and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, among others, and will soon be seen in Nigerian-Indian romcom On Different Grounds, believes the definition of fitness has evolved over the years. He explained that it is more accessible now, especially because of the internet; however, he stressed people should not blindly follow any trend but rather verify them through professionals.
Speaking on the occasion of World Health Day, which is observed on April 7, he said, "With the rise of the internet, fitness knowledge isn’t just limited anymore; it’s widespread. We have access to countless apps, tracking tools, and information that let us choose routines that fit our own lifestyles. Plus, fitness creators on platforms like Instagram really help by breaking down complex concepts and connecting with people."
"So, fitness is more accessible than ever, and that’s a great thing. Of course, we do need to be careful; it’s important to rely on trusted sources and carefully fact-check any advice before we try," he added.
He stressed the importance of home-cooked meals and daily routines and said, "Indian food, in particular, is known for being balanced, with a good mix of grains, proteins, healthy fats, and vegetables." In fact, globally, people are appreciating Indian cuisine more and more for its nutrition and wholesomeness. And we’re seeing a shift—people are moving away from junk food and returning to their roots, trusting those time-tested home-cooked meals and routines."
Vineet blames increasing screen time as one of the biggest reasons that negatively impacts our health. He said, "When we just sit for hours scrolling, it can really affect us. It hurts our posture, reduces mobility, strains our eyes, and even impacts our mental focus with constant dopamine hits. Limiting screen time and engaging in hobbies can help. I’m a trained DJ; I learned it despite a busy schedule—and I also paint, write poetry, read, swim, etc. The key is building a routine that leaves space for movement, creativity, and balance."
He also highlighted the importance of health in improving overall health. He said, "It’s when our body repairs tissues, balances hormones, and recharges our brain. From a medical standpoint, consistent sleep supports everything—immune function, metabolism, and mental clarity. Unfortunately, it is often underestimated, even though there’s more health information out there now. A minimum of six to seven hours each night is a must for a healthy, balanced body."
For him, discipline is the backbone of long-term health. He said, "It keeps you consistent, even on days when you don’t feel like it, and that’s the key." By sticking to routines, regular exercise, balanced eating, and good sleep, you build healthy habits that outlast short-term highs or lows."
Asked for one simple lifestyle change that can improve health, he said, "If I had to suggest one simple lifestyle change, it would be incorporating daily movement—just a short 20 to 30-minute walk or a light workout. Regular physical activity is one of the most powerful changes; it boosts your mood, your energy, and your heart health. And once it’s a habit, it sets the stage for all your other healthy choices."
"Mindful eating habits, workouts, and good sleep take care of everything else," Vineet ended.
