Vineet Raina makes international debut with On Different Grounds
Vineet Raina, who has been part of showbiz for over 23 years, is set to make his international debut with the film On Different Grounds. Directed by Mildred Okwo and produced by Nicolette Ndigwe, the romantic comedy stars him opposite former Miss Ghana Abena Akuaba.
Speaking about the project, Vineet says, “The film is a love triangle that explores the complexities of relationships. I am proud to represent the Indian film industry on an international platform. What makes it even more exciting is that we are planning to shoot the sequel in India. I hope all permissions and grants come through.”
He recalls that the opportunity came his way unexpectedly. He shares, “My shows, including Maayka and Punar Vivah, were telecast in dubbed versions in Nigeria. Indian content is quite popular there, much like in Indonesia. When I visited in mid-2024, I was surprised to be recognised at a restaurant. Around the same time, a friend suggested my name for the project, and after doing their research, the team felt I was right for the role.”
Adapting to a new environment came with its own challenges. The actor, who has been part of shows such as Vaidehi, Maayka, Do Hanson Ka Jodaa, Godh Bharaai, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Udaan, Choti Sarrdaarni and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, says, “There was a language barrier, so I trained using YouTube to get the accent right. I did have initial apprehensions, but I enjoy taking on challenges.”
Talking about working with an international crew, he notes the discipline on set. “Communication across departments was extremely efficient and often happened wirelessly in whispers. There was a certain silence maintained on set, which helped actors focus on their lines and rehearsals. Most challenges were resolved before the actors and director reached the floor, so you would hear nothing except them. The passion, discipline and professionalism were truly impressive, and it reflects in the final show,” he concludes.
