Vatsal shops for shoes and belts in Kanpur

Planning to be a computer programmer, luck made Vatsal Sheth an actor.
“I was interested in computer programming as a kid. In fact, during my college days, I used to be a hacker,” said Vatsal when we met on his recent visit to Kanpur to promote his show currently on air.

“I loved being surrounded by gadgets. But there was a friend of mine in Mumbai, whose place I used to visit often.His mother used to be a model coordinator. At that time she was auditioning for actors for the show Just Mohabbat. She was looking for someone to play Jai, and she insisted that I audition for the role. Finally, I was selected and that changed the course of my life. I left my studies and became an actor,” said Vatsal, as he roamed around a mall in the city looking to buy some leather products.
“Actually Amita Udgata ji is playing my grandmother in the serial and she is from Lucknow. During our visit to Kanpur she told me that the city is known for its leather products. So I thought of picking something and picked up leather shoes, belt and a bag for myself from a mall in Kanpur.”

Being choosy about the roles he accepts, Vatsal, who’s also worked in films Taarzan: The Wonder Car and Hostel, said, “After Ek Hasina Thi I took a break as I was not getting the roles of my choice. The same thing happened in film offers. As an actor, I want to do roles that get appreciation from audience. Kaam karo aur tareef bhi na mile toh aisa kaam karne main fayada hi kya.

Also, in 1999, when I did Just Mohabbat, television was not that popular a medium. I remember that I didn’t go for a single promotional tour for the show at that time. But today we are touring a number of cities just for promotions. Also, the canvas of small screen has become larger. The type of special effects, cinematography and technology is being used for making these serials is at par with the technology used for filming movies. That’s why I am concentrating more on TV shows now,” said the actor.
