In a significant development in the divorce proceedings between Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his estranged wife, Dhanashree Verma, the Bombay High Court has granted a waiver of the mandatory six-month cooling-off period, expediting the finalization of their divorce. This decision comes ahead of Chahal’s commitments in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, commencing on March 22.
As part of the mutual consent terms, Chahal has agreed to provide Dhanashree Verma with a permanent alimony totaling ₹4.75 crore. To date, he has paid ₹2.37 crore, with the remaining amount scheduled for payment following the official decree of divorce.
The couple, who have been living separately since June 2022, filed for divorce by mutual consent on February 5, 2025. Initially, the family court denied their request to waive the six-month cooling-off period, citing partial compliance with the consent terms—specifically, the incomplete payment of the agreed alimony. However, considering Chahal’s professional commitments and the couple’s extended period of separation, the Bombay High Court overturned this decision. Justice Madhav Jamdar directed the family court to finalize the divorce proceedings by March 20, acknowledging that the remaining alimony payment is contingent upon the granting of the divorce decree.
Contrary to earlier speculations suggesting an alimony amount of ₹60 crore, official records confirm that the agreed sum is ₹4.75 crore. Dhanashree Verma’s family has also refuted the inflated figures circulating in the media.
Yuzvendra Chahal, a prominent leg-spinner, and Dhanashree Verma, a well-known choreographer and social media influencer, were married in December 2020. Their separation in June 2022 led to the current divorce proceedings. The expedited resolution allows both parties to move forward amicably, with Chahal focusing on his upcoming IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals.
