Super Dancer 3: Facing nasty comments to lifting the dance trophy; Rupsa Batabyal's journey wasn't an easy one
Six-year-old Rupsa Batabyal has emerged as the winner of the third season of the dance reality show, 'Super Dancer'. Besides the trophy, she also walked away with a cash prize of Rs15 lakh. The little one has impressed judges with her expressions and dance movies so much that Shilpa Shetty kissed her feet. Let’s take a look at Rupsa’s journey to the winning moment.
A dancer was born
Her mother Shivani tells Bombay Times, “Rupsa started dancing from the moment she learned to walk. She would groove to any song, irrespective of its genre. Every year, a dance programme is held in Kolkata during Diwali, and at the age of three, she performed there non-stop for four hours. Everyone assumed that she is a trained dancer, but that’s not the case. She has trained for just six months, that too, some time ago.” By: Neha Maheshwri
‘Rupsa is stubborn and moody’
“I am happy, as I didn’t expect her to win the show. Not that I doubted her talent, but she is extremely moody. You can’t make her do anything against her will. Initially, she couldn’t bond with her guru (on the show), Nishant Bhat. However, he managed to strike a chord with her and the credit for her victory goes to him as well. There came a point when she wanted only ‘Nishant sir’ and not even me.” Photo: Instagram
Aspirations for little Rupsa
“We are waiting to go back home and celebrate the victory with our family. Apart from becoming a super dancer and making friends, she is going back with a new skill — she has learned Hindi. When Rupsa grows up, I would want her to train people who can’t afford to learn dance.” Photo: Instagram
Keep those praises pouring in
Rupsa loves when people praise her about her dance expressions. The little one says, “It feels really nice and I am very happy to have won the show. I want to become a good dancer like Shilpa ma’am (actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra was a judge on the show) and make my parents proud. A winning attitude from the very beginning
Rupsa not once felt that she won’t win the show. With confidence, Rupsa says, “Mujhe pehle se hi laga tha main show jeetungi. Mujhe kabhi nahi laga ki main haarungi. When I grow up, I want to build a big princess house with the prize money.” Her mother adds, “She set her eyes on winning the show, because she wants to build her dream house — a big princess house with everything in pink, including the TV set — with the prize money.” Photo: Instagram
Rupsa’s struggle story
Her mom says, “Jo mujhe karna chahiye tha Rupsa ke liye, woh kar rahi hai hamare liye. We aren’t financially sound, as her father is often out of job. Rupsa has slept on an empty stomach on a couple of occasions, because the food had gone bad and we didn’t have anything left to cook.
