On the occasion of
Lohri, actor Sunny Sachdeva tells us why this festival is very close to his heart. Talking about the significance of Lohri, he says, "It is one of the most important festivals for us. It is usually celebrated a day before
Makar Sankranti. We also refer to the festival as La Loi or Lohadi. It marks the end of winter and is a festival of harvest and warmth."
He adds, "Since I lost my parents at a very young age, it's my sisters who took my care.
I remember they used to take me to celebrate the festival with our relatives. Then as time passed, we started celebrating it on our own. We used to make some delicious food and visit the Gurudwara to seek blessings for the New Year. We used to live in Delhi then."
Sharing more of his childhood memories, the actor says, "I have a lot of beautiful childhood memories of celebrating Lohri. On this day, we would gather with our friends and family, light a bonfire outside our homes using wood and cowdung cakes. Then we used to go around the fire and perform Parikrama. We would keep offering sesame seeds, jaggery, gajak, rewdi and peanuts to the fire. Later we used to share greetings with our loved ones as it marks our new year."
Sunny, who was last seen in television show Harphoul Mohini, says this year it's going to be different. "Since I live in Mumbai, I will just go to the Gurudwara. My sisters have sent me some homemade sweets which I will share with my friends," says the actor who was also seen in films like M.A. Pass and B.A. Pass 3.
He adds, "On this day, it's time for new beginnings. It's the best time to forget about your differences with anyone, drop all negativity and move ahead on a positive note, and add more love and compassion to your life."
