Sunil Sharma (TOI Photo)The phrase Oh God couldnt be more applicable to anybody than it is to Sunil Sharma. From the beginning of his career till date, he has played various avatars of Gods. He started his career playing Lord Shiva in Shri Ganesh, then he played Lord Krishna in a Telugu tele-serial, which was followed by another Telugu tele-series where he played both Lord Rama and Krishna.
He also played Lord Buddha in a Telugu feature film. Currently, he is playing Lord Shiva in Jai Maa Vaishno Devi on 9X.
So, is it a deliberate attempt on his part to play God on-screen? It wasnt deliberate at first, but now Im good at these roles. I got my first big break as an actor by playing God, so there must be something special in it. Im willing to do something different too, he says.
Playing God isnt easy. Which God did he find the most challenging to portray? Lord Krishna, especially since I was doing the role for a South audience. Down South, acting movements are loud and accentuated, more over-the-top.
But with the difficulties comes success, and Sunil admits that he has learnt a lot playing these roles. And then, there comes a complete role-reversal; Sunil says now hed like to experiment with negative characters. Ive played a negative character in a play once and I think I did a good job. It fits in with my personality.
