The TV show Kavya – Ek Jazbaa Ek Junoon, which launched in September last year, is set to wind up on September 27. The abrupt decision to pull the plug on the daily soap has come as a shock to the cast and crew. Sumbul Touqeer, who plays the title role in Kavya, says, “The decision was quite sudden, and none of us saw it coming. But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. I am filled with mixed emotions – sadness and disappointment, especially because I was deeply connected to my character. Saying goodbye to a role I was so passionate about is never easy. After Bigg Boss 16, the character of Kavya became my new identity, and as artistes, we always strive to break and remake our identities through our characters. However, I understand that this is the nature of the industry – sometimes things don’t go as planned.”

She adds, “I’m staying positive and hopeful. I believe that when one door closes, another opens. I’m excited to explore new opportunities and see where my journey takes me next. My father often tells me, ‘Jab ek kahani khatam hoti hai tab ek nayi kahani shuru bhi hoti hai’. Maybe something even better is on the horizon for me.”

Sumbul plays an IAS officer in the show. In an interview with us last year, while talking about being part of Kavya, Sumbul had said, “It’s easy to get typecast on television. I was being offered characters similar to the one I played in Imlie. So, I decided to wait for something different. That’s when Kavya came my way. It’s interesting because the character is the opposite of who I am. She is more mature than me (smiles).”
