Sriti Jha: I am more comfortable playing different characters on screen than being myself on camera

Sriti Jha is currently seen in Khatron Ke Khiladi 12. Before she went on the show, the actress spoke to us about doing KKK. She did seem nervous at that point but she has been performing well so far. The actress also shared her views on settling down in life and how TV shows are something that she will always keep doing. Excerpts...

Talking about doing a reality show for the first time, she says, "When I watch a reality show as an audience, I find it very interesting. But to be part of a reality show is very difficult and I am very nervous about KKK. One can't put any filter on myself, if I am scared, angry or happy, all emotions will show up on screen. I don't know how much doing a reality show will help my career but I am hoping that it will contribute to some sort of personal growth."

She says, "I am a loner but this show is something which will help me grow as a person too. I want to meet everyone and experience these dangerous stunts with other contestants. There will be times when we are all scared together and at times we all will be clapping after winning a task."

She loves her craft and enjoys acting in fiction shows. But does she feel KKK will change the way audiences view her? "I understand that the audience has a certain kind of perception about me due to the characters I have played over a period of time. But I can't control what the audience will think about me and if it will break the existing image they have of me. After this show is over I will be back to doing another fiction show portraying another character. I am more comfortable playing characters on screen than being myself on camera," says the Kumkum Bhagya actress.

Many actors get tired of playing similar roles on TV and get restless wanting to do something new. Sriti thinks differently. She says, "As boring as it sounds, I am very comfortable with what I have played on screen so far and I don't really plan ahead in life. I go with my gut feeling. If I get a role or a show which is similar to the last one, I don't mind doing it, I feel it's very comfortable for me. Television is my homeground. But that doesn't take away the fact that I am an actor and while auditioning if I get something new, I will be happy to do that as well."

Sriti says earlier one was often asked if they are ready to settle down in life, but now things have changed. "This question used to come very naturally to people five years back, but not anymore. People are more comfortable with the idea that settling down is just being content in the space you are in, or being on the path you intend to be. That doesn't necessarily mean one has to get married. It can also mean that I am happy to be an actor and I feel settled," she shares.

Sriti believes in living in the moment. "Life is an adventure and every day is different and I like it that way I don't really plan things in the future," says Sriti.
