Sapna Thakur, who is currently playing the role of Samaira in the
TV show
, 'Kyun Rishton Mein Katti Batti' says she has always played negative characters in her TV career so far because of her
height
. "I always wanted to become a police officer like my mom who retired from Chandigarh police last year. And I didn't want to become a film heroine. But, I was always fascinated by TV because of my mom who is a huge TV buff. She and I would watch TV shows together and discuss the plots and gossip. She is my partner in crime. That's how I decided to give TV a shot as a career," says Sapna.
However, since the beginning of her career, Sapna has played negative shades and vamps. "I am
tall
and I guess you cant project a tall girl as
docile
, as is the traditional
perception
in our society. Though I had gone to Mumbai to play a positive role, but since none came my way, I agreed for the negative portrayal."
While Sapna is happy in her niche, she says her mom would like otherwise. "You know how moms are. They want their daughters to play the ideal daughter and daughter-in-law. In fact, it is her heart's desire to see me in a positive role on screen some day and people don't give her galis," she laughs.
A post grad in History, Sapna says she found the subject easy, hence decided to study it. "The only reason I studied History is that I found it easy. I have this fascination for history, fantasy and magic etc. In fact, I would love to do show in the fantasy genre someday, like 'Naagin' or Vampire Diaries," she says excitedly.
Though Sapna has played negative shades so far, she doesn't fear being typecast. "I have always played negative roles, though I am a sweet girl in real. And this is the first time in 'Kyun Rishton Mein Katti Batti' where I am doing everything for love, so it's not a negative shade because for Samaira all is fair as she’s only acting out of love. I guess I am good at it, that's why I get such offers and don't fear being typecast. Playing negative shades is very tough and there is so much variation in character. Especially in this role, I play grey, dark and white shades and everyday there is a new twist in my character. Like next I am playing a Marathi mulgi. So, it's more interesting."
