Siddharth Nigam recalls his mother’s journey as a single parent; says, “She used to earn Rs 8,000 a month”
Siddharth Nigam, who is popularly known for his work in several TV shows and movies, recently opened up about his personal and professional life. He recalled the struggles his mother faced as a single parent and how his life changed after he got into acting. In a podcast with Yuvaa on their YouTube channel, the actor opened up about his struggles growing up.
He shared that after his father’s demise, his mother ran a small beauty parlour where she worked for 12–13 hours daily. The actor mentioned how she used to offer services like eyebrow threading for Rs 10 and facials at very low prices, earning around Rs 8,000–10,000 a month.
He said, “After my dad passed away, my mom became a single parent. After that began the journey of a single woman, and it was extremely difficult. So my mom started a beauty parlour. In that tiny parlour, customers would come for things like eyebrow threading for Rs 10, facials at very small rates, and services like that. She used to stay in the shop for 12–13 hours a day, and after doing all of that, she could somehow earn around Rs 8,000–10,000 a month.”
He then recalled the time he got an opportunity to act in an ad. He said, “Then I got an opportunity. When I got my first ad, the first thing they said was, ‘We want to take Siddharth.’ And we were like, ‘Why?’ I was only around 10 years old. The first payment I received was Rs 50,000. And then I got Dhoom 3. When the payment for Dhoom 3 came, I told my mom, ‘Now your child is going to become a star.’ Initially, they offered us Rs 15 lakh. We were literally kicking each other under the table in shock, ‘Rs 15 lakh?!’”
Later, Siddharth concluded by saying, “Then they said my mom would have to quit her job because I was very young and we had to go to Chicago for the shoot. So my mom left everything. And that Rs 15 lakh was something she calculated she wouldn’t have been able to earn even in five years. That was the moment when we truly felt that acting was something we should pursue.”
