Shveta Salve (TOI Photo) More picsShes been there, done that on the small screen. She has excelled with her power-packed performances, and even won the hearts of the telly audiences with her spectacular dancing in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. And, now she is looking towards Bollywood. Shveta Salve will be seen in a new avatar in her forthcoming film,
Bhanvara, directed by
Dharmesh Darshan.
Ask her about her role in the film, and she says excitedly, My characters name is Naina. She comes from a middle class family. A very intelligent girl a computer genius she is a go-getter and has big dreams. But, her family situation is not a positive one, being brought up by a single mother. The movie is about her struggle and the steps she takes to make her dreams come true. Wow! Doesnt it have all the ingredients of a frothy television serial?
Shveta disagrees, adding, The film deals with a very strong topic. I dont think it would ever be shown in a television serial.
Now that she is playing such a confident character in her very first film, does she feel that bold and strong roles are her forte? Im not quite sure that is true. Ive also played vulnerable characters, but maybe its the strong characters that I am known for. At the end of the day, Im an actor and I love my job. I will play any part that I find interesting, she says.
There has been a lot of discussion about Dharmesh Darshans choice of fellow television actors Manav Gohil, Eijaz Khan and Sangeeta Ghosh for the film. Shveta feels it is a positive step. I think it is advantageous. My co-stars and I come from the same genre of acting. So, playing the characters on the big screen was not difficult.
After acting, dancing is Shvetas second passion. And, she proved that when she soared her way into the hearts of people through her superb performances in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Will we see her dancing on screen as well? Ive always loved to dance. And, Bollywood is synonymous with music and dance. If I ever get an opportunity, I would definitely dance in a film, she says.
When she is not working, Shveta likes to travel and see the world.
I love to travel. Recently, I went to Orlando, Florida, for a vacation. Even if Im in the city, I love to take my car out and go for a long drive. Im also a huge movie buff. I can watch four movies in a day. I love spending time cooking and sitting with my three pet dogs, she explains.
With one film under her belt, and many more offers coming her way, will she be saying goodbye to television? I do not know whats in store for me. I only know the path that I tread on. I take things as they come. And, as far as films are concerned, why stop at just one film? I will continue acting as long as I get offers. Way to go Shveta!
