Shubhangi Atre: Celebrating Holi in Bhopal, where I have grown up, has a completely different feeling
As Holi approaches, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! actor Shubhangi Atre says the festival means much more to her than just colors and celebration. “For me, Holi is not just about colors,” she shares. “It is about relationships, forgiveness, and starting fresh. We all get so busy in life, and Holi gives us a chance to pause, hug people, and spread happiness.”
This year, the actress is heading to her hometown, Bhopal. “Celebrating Holi in Bhopal, where I have grown up, has a completely different feeling. The memories, the streets, the familiar faces — everything feels special,” she says.
However, the festival also brings an emotional note. “This is the third Holi without my daughter Ashi,” she reveals. “She has been in the US for the last three years, and that is one big change in my life. Earlier, every Holi started with putting color on her face. Seeing her laugh and run around used to be my favorite part of the festival. Now it feels a little emotional. Of course, I miss her deeply, but I know she would want me to stay happy.”
Keeping celebrations simple is her preference. “I like playing with dry gulal. I don’t enjoy too much water or loud celebrations. Simple time with loved ones, homemade sweets, and light music are enough for me.”
On Holika Dahan, she adds, “It reminds us that good always wins over evil. I pray that all negativity burns away and peace stays in our lives. Celebrate responsibly — use organic colors, save water, and respect everyone’s comfort.”
